Not shooting Jay-Z and Kanye West tonight :(

Slightly long story but the relevant part is that it looks very much like I’d have to shoot from the mixing desk, if not the very back of the crowd, and the stage lighting is dark for the tour. And I really don’t think the cheapest 55-200mm zoom lens Canon sell is up for the task :(

Apparently this kind of thing is really common in the venue they’re playing (which I’ve never requested a gig in before because someone got to Rammstein before me I’m too cool for all the bands that play there), which is kind of ridiculous. I mean, fair enough, the acts would be big enough that all the pros would be there with lenses that are up to the task, but given that there’s gonna be a crowd full of people with iPhones, why actively try to make things difficult for the people who are equipped to take really good photos that promote your venue/music?

Oh well, lesson learned, no more sellouts for me. Back to my dingy basements, crouching down with my wide-angle lens so I’m not up the lead singer’s nose. Shoot some musicians with integrity!
